1. Pour boiled water into the teapot and the teacups to warm them. Then pour all of this into the large bowl to cool a bit.
2. Place one teaspoon of tea leaves per person into the teapot.
3. When the water has cooled a bit, pour it into the teapot and let the tea steep for 2-3 minutes.
4. Bow with palms together to the pourer upon receiving the tea. Sip slowly and quietly three or four times per cup.
5. In order to assure that everyone receives equally flavored, the server pours a bit of tea in one cup at a time in rotation, three or four times. This is symbolic of Buddhist equality.
6. One should have at least three cups of tea to fully enjoy the taste, fragrance and experience. After emptying your cup, place it on the coaster or tea table and wait to be served again. If you have had enough, simply hold your teacup.
7. Participants can enrich the experience with light, natural conversation about Buddhism and Seon practice.
8. All tea utensils are returned to their original setting before the tea ceremony began.
