Tasting the spirit of Beopjusa Templestay

Not enough time to experience the whole stay?

Even in short time you can taste the depth of 1500 years of Beopjusa Temple and the philosophy of Buddhism.

After taking a walk towards Songnisan Mt., you might not want to miss the chance to taste the history of this old and magnificent temple and also base point of view of Buddhism.

Better to let us know beforhand - less than 2 people might be hard to proceed the program, depends on the templestay's conditions.

Da-Seon (Tea Ceremony)

It is one of the meditations to practice of mindfulness and concentration through brewing and drinking tea. Tea and meditation are the same that is why it is said Da-Seon-il-mil. When you drink tea, your five senses work at the same time. Your eyes see the color, ears hear the sound of water, nose smells the fragrance, the tongue tastes the flavor of the tea and your hands feel the warmth of the cup.

Orientation

Learn the temple etiquettes and concept of Buddhism, and also the short history of Beopjusa Temple.

Temple tour

Temple tour is not only visiting the Buddhist temple but experiencing Korean Buddhism and culture. Korean Buddhist temples have been the bedrock on which brilliant Korean culture has been blooming over the past 1700 years since Buddhism was first introduced to Korea. Various Buddhist cultural properties including the structure, architecture, sculpture, art, craft, Buddhist painting and Dancheong (temple paintwork) contain the teachings of the Buddha.


What to prepare - Winter Season

* A uniform ( a vest and pants ) is provided during the stay. * What to bring : toiletries(including towels), a personal water bottle, loose clothes for sleep, extra clothes for winter season, sneakers for hiking, and socks. Self-defence from the cold is required, thick jacket would be good.

Regulation

  • ※ Please keep the Temple’s rules and regulations for the program.

    1. A temple is a place for spiritual practice. Please refrain from loud talking, singing, smoking, drinking or excessive displays of affection.

    2. Please be on time and observe the templestay's schedule.

    3. Hapjang or holding palms together is a common way of exchanging greetings in a temple, especially to the monks and nuns. Also, whenever passing through the Buddha's Hall, please bow by placing palms together.

    4. This Templestay is the time for listening and communicating within yourself, truly recuperating.

    5. Instant keeping your valuables in a safe placing is available, whenever you want us to.

    6. Entering the temple, you are not allowed to carry your wheel suitcases. Please bring shoulderbag which is light to carry.

    7. Remember sleevelessness or flip-flops are prohibitted.

Way to Temple

Public Transfortation

Take a bus of which the final destination is Songnisan (속리산) Terminal.

Even though they call the bus a direct route, there might be short stops at Cheongju(청주) or Boen (보은) for a rest room or having more passengers on way to Songnisan. Please don't get off until you reach the last destination of Songnisan (Sokrisan 속리산).

If you're not sure, ask the bus driver showing Songnisan(Sokrisan 속리산) -> this word.

Please Note: If you take the Cheongju (청주) route, your bus will make a brief pit-stop at the Boeun (보은) Bus Terminal. The bus driver and passengers may all get off here. Do not get off! Otherwise you will have to purchase another ticket for the next bus coming through Boeun to Songnisan!

From Busan

Busan → Cheongju = 06:30 / 08:00 / 09:30 / 11:30 / 13:00 / 14:30 / 16:30 / 18:00 / 19:30

Cheongju → Songnisan(Sokrisan) = Almost every 30 mins from 06:20 - 21:40

From Seoul

For those departing from Seoul, please go to the nearest terminal out of
Dong Seoul Bus Terminal (Gangbyeon station, Seoul Metro Line #2),
Express Bus Terminal (Line #3)
or Nambu Bus Terminal (Line #3) by subway.

Take a bus of which the final destination is Songnisan (속리산) Terminal.
