Temple Cuisine Templestay
“Temple Cuisine Templestay” is back on July 15, 2017!
In the temple, eating food is kind of a practice. Temple food is for not only physical but also spiritual. Temple food is stamina food for sunims or Buddhist priests who do spiritual practice causing less momentum and have digestion problem.
The moderns, who do mental work with computer every day and less move, also have similar life-style like Buddhist priests so that temple food is considered suitable one for them.
That’s why we prepare this special type of Templestay for you this time. You can join the making temple cuisine get a first-hand experience!
**This program is only for foreiners. However, in case of Korean who apply with foreign family or friends, He or She is limitedly accepted per one foreign applicants. (1+1)

The practice of Buddhism is by lowering myself. Bowing is to take refuge in The Three Jewels (the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sanga), respect for others, and keep a humble mind in Buddhism. 108 defilements represent the worldly sufferings. One bow purifies one defilement
Cham-Seon ( Seon meditation )
Seon meditation is to cut off all thoughts. Through Cham-Seon, you can learn mindfulness and concentration. Cham-Seon is the important method of Korean Buddhist practice. We hope you look for your true nature with concentration and observation through learning the basic of Cham-Seon at the head temple of Seon sect, Bongeunsa.
Learning Basic Temple Etiquette and Buddha hall story.
You will be taught basic temple rules or etiquette that you should follow.
Also it is the time to recognize importance of etiquette and respect to the different culture.
Registration
After arrival, you will be guided your room, get temple uniform, and be heard the schedule for templestay period.
Tea time with guiding teacher
This time is chance to have advise and talk with the guiding teacher(Sunim) of templestay program. Having a cup of tea and trying to keep calm and peaceful mind.
Understanding Temple Cuisine and Cooking
Learning the meaning of the temple food and experiencing how to cook it can be a special chance to care your physical and spiritual condition and learn that “you and nature are the one”
Yebool
A day of the temple begins with Yebool. Yebool is a ceremony that we pay respect to the Sakyamuni Buddha, Bodhisattvas and all his disciples. It affords a chance for self-reflection of practice. In the Buddhist chanting, it contains that Buddhists take refuge in the Buddha, Buddha’s teachings and Shangha (the community of Buddhist monks and nuns), and wish to be a buddha through practice constantly. While you are listening to Buddhist chanting, you will feel calm and purified mind
What to prepare
* A uniform ( a vest and pants ) is provided during the stay.
* What to bring : toiletries, towels, a personal water bottle, loose clothes for sleep, an extra t-shirt, sneakers, and socks.
**Remember that a sleeveless shirt or flip-flops are not recommended.
Payment & Cancellation Policy
- Participation fee can be paid in cash after arrival, or transfered to bank account and make a card payment.
We recommend you to prepay for reducing the no-show.
Cancellation and Refund Policy:
3 Days Prior to Reservation Date: 100% Refund
2 Days Prior to Reservation Date: 50% Refund
1 Day Prior to Reservation Date: 10% Refund
No refund will be made for cancellations on the day of the original reservation
Regulation
- ◎ Keep the Temple’s rules and regulations for the program.
◎ Please keep the noble silence during your stay.
◎ Be punctual for each program sessions.
- Buddhist Ceremony (morning 4:30am, evening 6:00pm),
Meal (Breakfast 7:00, Lunch 12:00, Dinner 5:00pm) and others
◎ Wear clothes neat and clean, and abstain revealing clothes.
◎ No smoking, no alcohol and no outside food
◎ Intl' Seon Center is closed from 10pm to 4am.
Way to Temple
[Subway] Omokgyo station to Intl' Seon Center
- Take the subway line 5
- Get off at Omokgyo station
- Go out through exit No. 8
- walk straight until the first intersection(Citi bank on the left corner)
- Turn left on the intersection and walk straight until Mokdong middle school on your left.
- You can see the 9 story International Seon Center(ISC) located on the opposite side of the school.
