Wonhyosa Temple
Mudeungsan Wonhyosa Temple is the 21st parish of the Jogye Sect of Korean Buddhism, and has a beautiful view of the Wonhyo Peak, the Wonhyo Valley below, and the Seoseokdae on the summit of Mudeungsan Mountain.
In 661 (the first year of King Wenmu), Wenhyo was on his way to study in the Tang Dynasty with the monk Wenmu, and one day he fell asleep by a tomb. When he woke up the next morning and found that it was dirty water in a skull bag, he hurriedly vomited up, realizing the truth of the "one-mindedness" and gave up studying abroad.
It is said that Wonhyo Daesa, who was striving for popular Buddhism in order to convey this enlightenment to the common people, stayed at the foot of Mudeungsan Mountain because he loved the beauty of the mountains and practiced during the early to mid-6th century during the reign of King Jijeong and King Dharmheung of Silla. A hermitage was renovated here, and it was called Huae Wonhyo Temple, Wonhyo Temple, and Wonhyo Hall.
